Purvis Byrd, 73, a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. He was a multi craft welder and worked at many shipyards and construction sites. Purvis was a dedicated member of Lighthouse of Praise Holiness Church in Mount Vernon. Purvis loved to minister to others, especially at the nursing homes. He loved people and sharing the Gospel with others. He enjoyed watching baseball and all-you-can eat restaurants, especially anywhere that served catfish. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Minnie Byrd; brother, McArthur Byrd; son-in-law, Trey Wainwright; brother-in-law and best friend, John Gray; special cousin, Earl Byrd. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Helen Byrd; children, Renee Gulley Sullivan, Melissa Johnson (Pete), Pam Wainwright, Teresa Blunt (Victor), Dana Gulley, and Tommy Gulley (Candice); 24 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Lem Byrd (Beatrice); other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 10am until the 11am funeral service on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Lighthouse of Praise Holiness Church with Rev. Ken Davis, Rev. Jimmy Sullivan and Pastor A.G. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Byrd Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Byrd, Logan Wainwright, Cody Johnson, Andrew Rowell, Matthew Rowell, John Gulley, Victor Blunt and Justin Randall.
