Reva Lee Reed, a selfless and kind-hearted individual, passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 7, 2023, at her home. She was born on December 22, 1944, and dedicated the majority of her professional life to educating others about the MOWA Choctaw tribe. Reva worked tirelessly with numerous tribal committees and civic organizations, investing her time and energy in sharing knowledge about the tribe's rich culture and heritage.
Reva's passion for her work extended beyond her career. She truly embodied the values of generosity and kindness in every aspect of her life. She had a giving nature that touched the lives of everyone around her. Reva was always willing to lend a helping hand and brought joy to those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In her leisure time, Reva delighted in traveling and exploring new places. She had an artistic flair and enjoyed indulging in arts and crafts projects. Reva also had a keen eye for thrifting and would often uncover unique treasures during her shopping adventures. However, above all else, spending time with her family held a special place in Reva's heart.
Reva's proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love for them knew no bounds, and she poured all of her affection into nurturing their growth and happiness. The impact she made on their lives will continue to be felt through generations to come.
Reva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Verma Reed; sons, Michael S. Byrd and Gerald Weaver; grandson, Patrick Handley; parents Clasby and Roberta Rivers; as well as siblings Wallace Rivers, Wilford Rivers, Jane Smith, Curvin Rivers, and Lamar Rivers. Their memories will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who loved them.
She is survived by children Angie Middleton (Tim), Phyllis Nelson (Ray), Lemo Byrd, Jr. (Dana), Vance Reed (Deanna), Travis Byrd (Tara), Troy Reed (Shirl), Gregory Reed, Ingran Simmons, Christopher Reed (April), and Tiffany Beason (Jeremy). Reva's legacy lives on through her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her immediate family, Reva is also survived by siblings Keith Rivers, Rita Taylor Maggie Rivers, Lenore Rivers, and Mary Sue Sullivan; special friend and caregiver, Eva "Bang" Byrd. She cherished the love and support of many other relatives and friends who will dearly miss her warm presence.
A visitation to honor Reva's life will be held on December 11, 2023, from 11:00 AM until the 12:00 PM funeral service at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Chris Reed officiating. Burial to follow in Byrd Cemetery.
Reva Lee Reed will forever be remembered for her selflessness and kindness that touched the lives of so many. Her dedication to preserving the MOWA Choctaw tribe's heritage will be honored and carried on by those she inspired. May her soul rest in eternal peace as her memory continues to brighten the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
