Mr. Robert L. Schwartz, Sr. died peacefully in Citronelle, Alabama, on June 1, 2017, at the age of 83.
Bob is survived by his four children, Terri Schwartz Butts (Willie) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Bobby Schwartz (Nadia) of Buford, Georgia; Philip Schwartz of Citronelle, Alabama; and Chris Schwartz (Robin) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brandon Schwartz (Tara), Kristen Schwartz Bryan (T.J.), Michael Schwartz (Jennifer), Kellen Butts Seymour (John), Luana Pastor Ayers (Matt), Anna Schwartz, Claire Schwartz; and seven great grandchildren, Tristan Schwartz, Hunter Schwartz, Addy Bryan, Brody Myers, Andrew Schwartz, Parker Seymour, and Layne Seymour. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Fortner Schwartz, and by his parents, Robert E. Schwartz and Nellie Domzalski Schwartz.
Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 22, 1934. His parents and he moved to Citronelle in 1938. He graduated from Citronelle High School in 1951. He earned a BS in Business Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1954 and his MED in Educational Administration from the University of South Alabama in 1970. Bob's teaching and coaching career began in 1954 at K.J. Clark in Chickasaw, Alabama. During his coaching career there, he received an award recognizing him as the "Winningest Coach" for his success in coaching baseball. He was promoted to assistant principal in 1970 at Citronelle High School and then served as principal from 1972 until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed traveling out west, Braves baseball, and good food. Bob was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where he was a parishioner for over 80 years.
The family will receive friends from 2pm until the 3pm chapel service on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. John Coghlan officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Schwartz home immediately following.
