Robert Martin

December 9, 1931 — February 10, 2024

Citronelle

Robert Martin, known affectionately as Bobby, passed away on February 10, 2024. He was born on December 9, 1931 in Commerce, Georgia and moved to Citronelle, Alabama at an early age. Bobby led a remarkable and fulfilling life, leaving behind an indelible mark on his family, friends, and community. Bobby's commitment to his country allowed him to serve during the Korean War in the United States Army after enlisting in the Alabama Army National Guard.

Bobby began his career as a lab analyst at Courtaulds Fibers. He was also dedicated to the Mill Creek Golf Course, where he served as superintendent for many years. He poured his heart into maintaining the greens and creating a welcoming environment for golf enthusiasts. Bobby's expertise and passion for his work made him an invaluable asset to the course.

While dedicated to his career, Bobby always prioritized his loved ones and cherished the moments spent with them. He held the endearing nickname, "Paw," among his family members, a testament to the warmth and love he radiated. The qualities that defined Bobby were humility, patience, care, and boundless love. His gentle nature touched the lives of countless individuals who were fortunate enough to know him.

Bobby was known for indulging in simple pleasures that added richness to his life. He found solace in sitting on his swing, while sipping a cup of coffee with his beloved "Maw." Bobby enjoyed reading to his great grandchildren and had a passion for collecting antiques and maintained an impressive collection over the years. Fishing trips to the farm were a common occurrence for Bobby - to see if "the fish were biting."

Of all Bobby's accomplishments in life, none brought him greater joy than being a devoted husband and father. Despite having spoiled them from time to time, he took immense pride in raising his children alongside his loving wife Jeanette. Theirs was a love that withstood the test of time, and their bond remains an inspiration to all who knew them.

Bobby's legacy lives on through his surviving family and friends, who will forever hold him in their hearts. He is survived by his adoring wife of 73 years, Jeanette, his children Mike Martin (Donna), Terry Martin, and Allison Hester (Steven). The joy of Bobby's life extended to his grandchildren: Brooke Blount (Jeremy), Erin Byrd (Joe), Leslie Sullivan (Jeremy), Lauren Martin (Felisha), Robert Martin, and Avery Grace Hester. He delighted in his role as a great-grandfather to ten great grandchildren. Bobby also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and special caregivers, Jennifer Rivers, Ashley Johnston, and Vital Care Hospice who were touched by his love.

He is preceded in death by his son, Robert Carol Martin; grandson, Landon Hester; parents, O.T. and Lorena Martin; siblings, Lutrell DeVore, Verner Martin, Gene Martin, and Joseph Martin.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 10:30 AM until the 12:00 PM funeral services at Living Word Church with Rev. Marc Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Though Bobby may no longer be physically present, his legacy will continue to inspire countless generations to come. May his soul find eternal peace as we hold dear the memories he has left us with.
