Sadie Marie Mears, born July 12, 1946, passed peacefully on February 22, 2024, at the age of 77. Sadie was born in rural Washington County to Willie and Dimpse Rivers. After living in several states as a younger adult, she settled in Citronelle Al, where she has resided for the past 42 years.
Ms. Sadie or “Maw Maw” as she was affectionately called, was known far and wide for her delicious cooking skills and she loved nothing more than preparing meals for her family and friends. Her specialty dishes were compared to none. Her beauty and charm had a lasting impact on all who knew her.
For many years she was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 164. When she accepted Jesus as her personal savior, she became a member and attended Sims Chapel Holiness Church.
Sadie was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Dimpse Rivers; grandchildren, Sandra Marie Orso, Michael Wayne Rivers, Dustin Kyle Denmark, and “Redbird” James; brother, Thomas Rivers; and sister-in-law’s, Dottie and Cheryl Rivers.
She leaves behind her children, Sheila Mears Byrd, Connie Mears and Renee Mears Comans (Robert); brothers, Curtis Rivers( Debra), Coma Rivers ( Bunny) and Emery Rivers; grandchildren, Ginger, Jerri Lynn, Hunter, Kameron, Tori, Kevelyn, and Sadie Claire; great grandchildren, Alexis, Destiny, Michael, Krissy, Bostyn, Kaisen, RJ, Huntleigh, Klaire, Keylon and Navy; great great grandchildren, Jalayah and Kalayah; loving best friend of 47 years, John Thompson and family(Tommy, Wanda, Jimmy, Bev, Natlie and children); and a host of family and friends who loved and will miss her dearly.
A wake will be held Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Sims Chapel Holiness Church with Bro. Jr. Long officiating. Burial will follow in Hillspring Cemetery.
