Susie Jeanette (Weaver) Simmons, 60 years of age, traded her earthly life for eternity in Heaven on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 10:40pm at Mobile Infirmary Hospital.
Susie was was born November 27, 1956 in Citronelle,Alabama to the late Horace Judson Weaver and Lola Cleo (Echols) Weaver and was raised in McIntosh, Alabama. She was one of eight siblings, three of which passed before her, and was the bond which held her family together. In 1977, Susie married Carl Simmons and they had a four-decade love of which movies are made from. They made Mt. Vernon, Alabama their home, and two children were born of their union: a daughter, Stacy, and a son, Aaron.
Susie worked nearly 25 years with the Mobile County Health Department and helped so many in the community. She loved to sit on the front porch or near the fireplace, work out in the yard cutting grass and painting her metal flowers, find bargains at estate sales or Dirt Cheap stores, and playing with her sweet dog, Tink. She attended Crossroads Church in Tibbie, Alabama and was recently baptized alongside her dear husband, outwardly committing her life to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a proud member of the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians and once served as their Councilperson-at-Large. Susie was a pillar of strength and perfect example of kindness to all who knew her. She was a loving, caring person, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, always thinking of others first. To know her was to love her, and her beautiful life, immense love, and fierce loyalty could never be summarized in words.
Susie leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 40 years, Carl Simmons, daughter Stacy (Shane) Walley, and sons Aaron (Melissa) Simmons and Donnie Simmons. She will be remembered as a loving Nannie to grandchildren Kristian, Angel, Dalton, Joshua Dillon, Carlee, Jackson, and Chase, and great-grandchildren Bayleigh, Aubree, Mikey, Khloe, Hadleigh, and Blaklee.
She is also survived by her brothers, Horace (Mavis) Weaver and Larry Weaver, and sisters, Cherie (Gene) Wiggins and Vicki (Dewayne) Joiner.
Susie was "Moma" and "Nannie" to her nephews, Lloyd (Courtney), Calvin (Jennifer), and Joey (Tiffany) Rivers and their 11 children. She will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other family, and friends, and especially by her best friend and cousin, Kathy Gail (Perry) Wilkerson.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents Horace and Cleo Weaver, and sisters Patsy Jo Cordelle, Linda Diain Weaver, and Lillie Irene Rivers.
A wake will be held from 6pm until 9pm Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle, Alabama. The funeral will be held at 2pm Friday, June 30, 2017, at Reed's Chapel Baptist Church on Topton Road in McIntosh, Alabama. Burial will follow in Reed's Chapel Cemetery.
