Sylvia McLendon Lewis, born on February 24, 1961, passed away on January 20, 2025, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of love and connection. Sylvia was a devoted manager at Cracker Barrel for two decades, where she cultivated a passion for her work that resonated with the countless individuals she encountered. Her career was not merely a job; it was a testament to her spunky, bubbly, and caring personality that endeared her to all.
A devoted mother, Sylvia cherished her children: Matthew Brown, James "Jimmy" Watson, Daniraee Lewis, and Audri Boshane. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to Jax, instilling family values and creating beautiful memories with her loved ones. Her siblings, Kelly Cochran (Barry) and Angie Cooper (David), were also integral parts of her life, providing support and companionship through the years. Sylvia's family extended to her best friends Doris Carlisle, Mary Stevens, Cathy Hebert, Janet Fell, and Marisa Page (Tim), with whom she shared laughter and unforgettable moments. Sylvia leaves behind her loving mother, Kay Meinhardt, her mother-in-law, Frances Lewis, and a multitude of great nieces and nephews who will always remember the warmth she brought into their lives.
Sylvia's passions extended beyond her professional achievements; she was deeply intertwined with her faith, passionately sharing her relationship with the Lord with those around her. She found joy in music, roller coasters, and traveling, always seeking new adventures and experiences. Her love for good food was only matched by her enjoyment of gatherings with family and friends, where her warm spirit shined brightest. An avid Alabama football fan, she found excitement in every game, further cementing her status as a beloved member of her community.
Sylvia was also known for her dedication to her home and garden, taking pride in making her yard the best it could be. Whether raking leaves or cutting grass, she embraced every opportunity to beautify her surroundings, reflecting her vibrant personality and love for nature. Christmas was especially dear to her heart, as she relished the act of gift-giving and bringing joy to others.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband, Danny Ray Lewis; her son, James "Jimmy" Watson; her father, Fred McLendon; her mother, Pat Funk; her siblings, Jimmy McLendon and Floyd McLendon; and her father-in-law, Wendal Lewis.
A visitation will be held on January 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Turnerville Baptist Church with Bro. Wesley Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Turnerville Cemetery.
Sylvia McLendon Lewis will forever be remembered for her loving spirit, her ability to bring people together, and the profound impact she had on everyone she met. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who were fortunate enough to know her.
