Thomas M. Long, 72, a native of Gilbertown, AL. and resident of Mt. Vernon, AL. died January 27, 2011. He retired from Ciba Geigy and worked at Freeman Funeral Home. Thomas was a faithful member and deacon of Cedar Creek Holy Church of God. He also served as Mt. Vernon City Councilman for over fourteen years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Aver Long, brothers, A.J. Long, Robert Long, Ray Long and Olan Long. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gayle Simison Long of Mt. Vernon; children, Randy (Denise) Long of Haslet, TX., Greg (Paula) Long of Turnerville, AL., Pam (Kevin) Nix of Lufkin, TX. and Melissa (David) Landrum of Alabaster, AL.; grandchildren, Justin (Emily) Long, Courtney Long, Jamie Scoggins, Lexi Long, Mackenzie Long, Austin Nix, Josh Nix, Andrew Landrum and Jacob Landrum; brother and sisters, Eloise Stanley, Rev. John David (Helen) Long, Ollie Mae (Jim) Halliday and Janice Phillips; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A wake will be from 6 - 9 PM Friday, January 28, 2011 at Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 10 AM Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Cedar Creek Holy Church of God with Rev. Darius Templeton and Rev. Dallas Lakes officiating. Pallbearers will be Justin Long, Jamie Scoggins, Austin Long, Tony Rutland, Gene Harrell, IV., Marcus Long, Lamar Long and Jeff Long.
