Our family is deeply saddened to annouce the passing of Thomas Mann aka "Uncle Tom." Tom was born September 4, 1956, in Ada, Oklahoma, to John and Shirley Mann. He passed on January 31, 2023, in Mobile, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, John Mann; and two brothers, Loren Mann and Bobby Mann. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Mann; son, John Mann; brother, Wendell Mann; sister, Michelle Mann Mullins (Darell); five granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; twelve nieces and nephews, including Steven Mann (Jessica), Alicia Sullivan, Michelle Mann (Johnny Ray), and Kevin Mann (Kayla); and twelve great-nieces and great-nephews.
To say Tom's profession was any one thing would not do him justice. He went into the Air Force straight out of high school, where he became a Sergeant, working the flight line during the Vietnam War, and taught a class on nuclear weapons systems. After the Air Force, he worked in numerous industries as a skilled tradesman. He always boasted of being multi-crafted and lived up to his claims. Tom loved his life as a drifter in many ways, always on the edge of society. He managed to do so in a way that was strangely admirable. He was loved by everyone, and a firm constant in many of our lives. He is, and will always be, sorely missed. Drift on, Mann Boy.
A graveside service will be held for Tom at 10am Friday, February 24, 2023, at Alabama State Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama. Precious memories, thoughts, and condolences may be left at www.freemancitronelle.com. Freeman Funeral Home - Citronelle, Alabama
