Tom Felton Rivers

Tom Felton “Big Daddy” Rivers, 69, a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Springhill Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. Early in his life, he was a welder at Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Company. Later in life, his passion was witnessing to people in the community while selling watermelon and produce. He was known as the watermelon man. Felton was a very religious man who visited churches in the community. His home church was God’s Word Church. He loved spending time with his family and loved eating at Jordan’s Fish Camp. Felton was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Everett Rivers; sister who raised him like a son, Bertha Orso; sisters, June Bug, Gloria Sullivan, Blanche Rivers, Nancy Weaver, and Ann Taylor; and brother, Dot Lofton. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ola Rivers; children, Tracie Weaver (Manie), Jennifer Reed (Mickey, Sr.), Lance Rivers, Sr. (Jennifer), and Daniel Davis (Erica); grandchildren, Patrick, Shantel, Chyann, Morgan, Mickey, Jr., Reilli, Lance, Jr., IV, Hillary, and Noah; great grandchildren, Jaci, Faithlyn, and Sunny; father, Joe Zenner Orso; devoted brother, Everett Rivers, Jr. (Betty); sister, Nora Rivers (Murray); a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A wake will be held from 6pm until 9pm Friday, September 23, 2016, at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral will be 1pm Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Lighthouse of Praise Church with Rev.
