Vernon Scott Newton, Sr.

December 5, 1963 — October 29, 2016

Vernon Scott Newton, Sr., 52, a native and resident of Mt. Vernon, Alabama passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Springhill Medical Center. Scott worked at Little’s Auto Sales for over 33 years and served over 35 years on the Mt. Vernon Fire and Rescue. He held various titles such as Assistant Chief and Captain. Scott volunteered many hours and helped others in need. Scott loved to sing, hunting and fishing. One of his favorite things to do was cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide and spending time with his family and friends. Scott was loved by many and will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Newton; grandson, Devon Martin; sister, Crystal Walker. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 33 years, Lisa H. Newton; children, Wendy Morgan (Allen) and Vernon Scott Newton, Jr. (Kristen); five grandchildren, James, Evan, Kadyn, Daylin and Daisy; father, Vernon Earl Newton (Joann); three sisters, Malinda Byrd, Renae Reed (Donny Ray) and Brandi Newton Chestang (Chris); brother-in-law, Randall Walker; fur babies, Lil Ann and Missy Ma’am; firefighting family; other relatives and friends. The wake will be from 6-9pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral service will be 11am on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Sullivan and Rev. Roger Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Community Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Cameron Busby, Joseph Pope, Otis Evans, Jeremy Tillman, Samuel Stanley, David Koger, Danny Hutchinson, Corey Allen, Mark Stanley, Brandon Long and Russell Presley. Honorary pallbearers will be Kameron Turner, Kenneth Kirkland, Jack Thomas, Chris Chestang and Donny Ray Reed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Mt.
