Walter Lewis “Buddy” Smith, 89, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at his residence in Citronelle, Alabama. Buddy was born in Baxterville, Mississippi on Thursday, July 12, 1928 to Robert and Lillie Smith. Buddy was a Korean War Veteran and served for 30 years in United States Army and Alabama National Guard. Buddy worked and retired after 30 years with Courtaulds Fibers. Buddy loved people and served on the Citronelle City Council for 8 years and as Mayor for 4 years. He loved playing pranks and telling jokes, cooking, gardening and Alabama Football. Most of all Buddy loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Doris Smith and daughters, Brenda West and Kimberly Silcox, siblings, Fletcher, Coy, Ira, Underwood, J.W., Orris, Mae and Rachel. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Freddie Smith, Bruce Smith (Rhonda), Elsie Yates (Jim), Faye Howard (Steve), Paula Williams, and Kay Hollman (Aubrey); 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. A wake will be held 6pm-9pm Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Living Word Church in Citronelle. Funeral service will be 2pm, Friday, February 2, 2018 at Living Word Church with Rev. Marc Hobbs and Bro. Tanner Rowell officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery in Citronelle. The family would like to thank Laci Rutland and the other caregivers with Hometown Hospice.
