William Houston “Sonny” Newburn, Sr., 83, a native and resident of Citronelle, Alabama passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 at his home. He served his country in the United States Army being a veteran of the Korean Conflict, member of the American Legion Post 164 where he proudly played “Taps”. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Citronelle and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. Left to cherish his memory is wife of 60 years, Carol Ann Evans Newburn; daughters, Alice Marie Turner and Christy Lyn (Steve) Taylor; sons, William H. “Cat” (Shirley) Newburn, Jr., Donald W. (Janet) Newburn, Roger Darren (Sabrina) Newburn and Richard J. Evans; brother, Harold Joe (Carolyn) Newburn; sister, Diane (Roger) Adams; grandchildren, Christopher (Megan) Newburn, Caitlin (Chris) Newburn , Tiffany Newburn and Ann-Marie Taylor; four great grandchildren; caregiver, Mandy Revette; other relatives and friends. The wake will be from 6-9 pm Monday, April 6, 2015 at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral will be 11am Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Marcus Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for the special care given to Mr. Newburn.
