William L Ramey, Sr.

William L. “Billy” Ramey, 80, a native and resident of Citronelle, Alabama passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Crown Healthcare. He served in the Alabama National Guard for over 20 years and retired with over 50 years of service with Andrews Hardware Store in Citronelle, Alabama. He will always be remembered for taking his time to help others in need. Billy was committed to serving the community of Citronelle as being a volunteer with the Citronelle Fire & Rescue Squad, a member of the Citronelle Police Auxiliary, Citronelle High School Booster Club, Jaycees, and the Chamber of Commerce. He served on the board of South Alabama Utilities and City Councilman for Citronelle. He was preceded in death by his son, James Wesley Ramey; brothers, James “Buddy” Ramey and Allen Ramey. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean Ramey; children, Billy (Toni) Ramey, Jr., Ann (Mitchell) Beech and Richard (Peggy) Ramey; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Jane Holland, Johnnie Fay Guy, Debbie Hosford and Kim Lindell; two brothers, Bobby Ramey and Jody Ramey; other relatives and friends. The wake will be from 6-9pm Monday, October 19, 2015 at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 11am Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Citronelle with Dr. Elbert Charpie officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
