It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of a beloved husband, father, and stepfather on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the age of 86.
Mike Poffenbarger was born on July 11, 1938, to John and Vera Poffenbarger. He worked in the chemical research division of Virginia Chemicals (Celanese America) from which he retired. He served 4 years in the Air Force and was very proud and honored to serve his country.
He lived the first 40 years of his life in Portsmouth, VA. The last 41 years he has lived in Citronelle where he was active in the Citronelle Methodist Church, the Citronelle Food Bank and always volunteered wherever he was needed. Those who knew Mike well loved him and respected his value of immense integrity.
Mike loved speed. He loved fast cars and motorcycles, and we spent many enjoyable years riding our motorcycle. In his early years, he was involved in boat racing. He also loved to travel and hiking in the mountains. We traveled extensively in the U.S. and several foreign countries.
He was a member of Citronelle Methodist Church, the Ambassador Club, the Portsmouth, VA. and Citronelle Masonic order, Portsmouth Scottish Rite and was a Shriner.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Poffenbarger, daughters Gail Poffenbarger and Barbara Deerfield, stepdaughters Martha Slay and Tracy Catledge and stepsons Ray Deese and Chris Deese. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kenneth and brothers, Jack and Phil Poffenbarger.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM memorial service at Citronelle Methodist Church with Pastor Anthony Tutor and Bro. Lauren Helveston officiating.
